The Manly Art of Shaving

Why would I write a post about the manly art of shaving?

First of all, it might give you ladies (who have no idea what to get your man) a gift idea.  I know how hard it can be to shop for a guy.  They either want tools and expensive “toys” or else it’s socks, wallets, belts, slippers, ties, etc.  This is a mid-priced gift, depending on the brand/quality you get. In the long run, it will also save a ton of money since the razors are so much cheaper than buying disposable razors. Of course you might want figure out if they’re even interested in this kind of thing.  I already knew that Josh thought it was neat.

Second, it’s fun to see Josh dallying away at the sink, fussing with such old-fashioned items as a shaving brush, foaming soap, and a double edged safety razor.  Somehow I love stuff from bygone years (although it’s getting quite trendy now…).

Third, I love how it all the paraphernalia looks by my bathroom sink.  Silly reason, but true!

So, without further ado, here is Josh demonstrating the perfect shave:

After your shower when your skin is still soft, fill the sink with hot water and begin to work up a lather with the shaving soap using your brush.

The brush is made out of badger hair, which is nice and soft.

Lather up your face.....

Lather up your face in a scrubbing motion…..

And shave once, or lather up again for an even closer shave.

Finish with an aftershave lotion.

The products I bought Josh and he loves:

-Tweezerman Men’s Shaving Brush (a cheap brush with great reviews on Amazon)

-Merkur Model 180 Long Handled Safety Razor (nice and heavy)

-Feather Razor Blades (very sharp, but gives a close shave)

-Escali Deluxe Chrome Razor and Brush Stand (which I bought almost a year later since it’s not absolutely necessary)

Josh loves shaving this way and would never want to go back. Maybe this is what your man would love too!

Just like my father! Opa actually used a sort of knife. Very nostalgic. 🙂

Nice! Don’t know if Wouter would be interested though…

Way cool, Ange! Mike would def. not do it because he would be WAY too lazy to go through the trouble (he shaves about once a week), but I think it is super cool!
